Places in Bahia - Brazil you must know

Here we go, after 1 year and 7 months, I decided to take a flight to my best place in the world (after Taipei), last December 28 without delays in flights I arrived in Sao Paulo. It's going to be a very special trip...

You have many ways to discover Bahia, I used to take a Flight from Sao Paulo to Ilheus (it takes around 2 hour and a half) and rent a car with localiza for RS 290. per day, it's the best option when you travel on holiday...

Ilheus is a small and beautiful city, It is considered the capital of cocoa.

Day 1: I arrived around 3 pm, took the car and searched for some local food (aracaye) which I couldn't eat but you can try... I stayed in an Airbnb near the beach "millionaires", which costs around USD 34 per night It was a very good decision to stay in a house because you don't have many restaurants to visit every day. In my perfect Airbnb I could cook, also Ingrid lent me many household items to take to the beach, etc.

Day 2: Get up super early and enjoy the beach, for the second day my recommendation is to visit Itacaré, it's 2 hours by car... about 70 km, it's better to go in the morning so you can do the 4 beaches: Itacarezinho, Jeribucacu, Havaizinho and; Engenhoca, prepare your sports shoes because this is a 3-hour adventure in total if you want to walk. The road to the 4 beaches is steep, although for the first (Itacarezinho) we have seen that some people came down by the car. All this since the sunny weather helped a lot.

Day 3: New year's eve. Beaches in the south of Ilheus: millionaires, cururupe, none recommended to spend the day, I would like to have returned to Itacare and visit other beaches there.

Day 4: Last day in Ilheus, I got to know the historic center, there are some streets that have shopping centers open at night to walk. If you feel like ice cream, there is an ice cream parlor on the corner of the historic center that has an otherworldly coconut ice cream by RS. 4.

Day 5: Trip to Maraú. A week before this trip we have been DESPERATE, because of the weather. Since Marau and all of Bahia tend to have a lot of rain in December, a week before all the events had been canceled and the routes had been closed. Nothing that two lucky people haven't changed by setting foot in the state! Keep in mind that if you want to go very far, it is quite difficult to leave without a 4X4, in our case, as we have gone on special dates, we have not taken this option due to high prices. We decided to take a risk. Leaving Ilheus it's 4 hours on a dirt road to Marau, the place where we stay and that I also recommend is Taipu de fora. Here are the most beautiful "piscinas naturais" at different times depending on the rise of the sea. (You have to be careful not to miss the information, they usually give you at the inn).

I recommend the Cais dourado pousada, a nice place to rest if you are looking for something small. You can leave the car there and it is close to everything! For this day, we decided to go to the nearby beach, which is about a 500m walk away, and have delicious juice in a hotel/bar that is in front of the beach and is open to the public: Patuá beach club. The value of a snack has been approximately RS. 40.

Although Taipu de Fora is a paradisiacal place, all this has a point against that with so much sand you cannot walk far to dine out, the road has no lights and therefore it is not possible to get out of the car.

On this first day, we decided to have a late dinner at a kiosk half a block from the inn, where we ate vegetables with the typical Brazilian dish rice and feijao.

Day 6: On this day we visit the piscinas naturais of Taipu de Fora, everything is very carefully. Therefore, remember not to leave rubbish and not to step on the corals. In the lodging, they had recommended we go on that day at 9 AM so we were punctual and we were able to enjoy a full hour of the beautiful waters in that place. Later we went to visit a nearby beach called Cassagne (by car) where we spent the day enjoying the beach. If you want to be away from the noise and bars, this beach is the best option, grab a book and lots of water for this well-deserved rest in paradise.

Day 7: Within Marau is the most famous touristic place: Barra Grande (we have regretted not staying one night here) there is much to do in the center and it seemed appropriate to visit more than one day. We rented a quad for the whole day. This cost us RS. 500. We have taken advantage of several places where it would not be possible to go by car, such as the Concha beach. At noon we went to the place where tourists usually see the sunset: Ponta do Mutá. It was a beautiful sunset so it's worth going there. At the end of the afternoon, we return to the inn and pack our bags to leave Marau the next day and go to Ilheus again.

To Day, who hugged me the day we arrived safely in the car after such a difficult road the first day in Taipu de fora, the hands saying we did it, the day he couldn't see where to turn on the lights of the buggy at 7 PM on a street with tons of sand and it gave me the most dangerous adrenaline of the whole trip...
